Conductor
Conducting sits at the heart of Alex’s musical life. Whether working with school orchestras, youth ensembles, adult learners or professional musicians, he is known for combining high musical standards with an atmosphere of encouragement, curiosity and enjoyment.
Much of his work is centred on young musicians. Rather than treating conducting simply as directing performances, Alex sees rehearsals as opportunities to develop listening, independence and confidence, helping players to understand not only what to play, but why.
Through his work with the Benedetti Foundation, Alex has conducted orchestras, led conducting sessions and worked with musicians and teachers across the UK and internationally. Alongside this, he has conducted and coached for organisations including the National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain, the National Youth String Orchestra, Warwickshire Music Hub and specialist music schools.
Alongside traditional orchestral repertoire, Alex enjoys creating imaginative concert programmes that draw on other art forms where they enrich the audience’s experience. His projects have brought together music with drama, dance and spoken word, creating performances that offer a fresh perspective whilst always remaining true to the music.
